[IMAGE] INTRODUCTION
This is WebWorld, the first virtual world you can move around in,
build in, and visually link to other parts of the World Wide Web.

Traveling
To move around in WebWorld, click on a square, and it becomes the new
center of your view. You can also click on a link, such as a home or
an office. Clicking on a link will send you wherever the link points
to. There are also containers, like cities, towns, and large
buildings. Clicking on a container takes you inside it.
At the top of your view into WebWorld, there is a legend indicating
where you are in the hierarchy. You can click on a label to return to
a higher view. At the bottom of your browser, you see a description of
where a click will take you.
Links
Land is available for you to build a home or office link. These
structures can be linked to your homepage, your company's homepage, or
anywhere else you would like to link them to. First click on one of
the link symbols, then click on an empty square where you would like
to locate the link. Choose an empty lot in a nice location and build
yourself a home in WebWorld. Commercial lots are available too. Just
pick a spot and build an office for your company.
Containers
If you would like to construct a city, town or large building that
will contain many objects, you will want to construct a container.
Containers can be constructed so that only you can add to their
contents. Just click on a container symbol, then click where you would
like to put the container.
Paths
To expand WebWorld out from the downtown area, build a road out to the
suburbs, or create a hallway in a building.
Ownership
Anything you build in WebWorld is yours to change or tear down. No one
else can change what you construct. Others can continue paths, or add
new structures on empty lots, but you don't have to worry about them
destroying what you have built.
Pedestrians
As you wander around WebWorld, you may notice an eye looking back at
you. When an eye is on a square, one or more persons are currently
located on that square. You can see who's there by putting your mouse
over the square and looking at the bottom of the screen.
Ideas
Here's a few ideas on what to build in WebWorld:
* A trade show
* Dorms with all your friends in one building
* Cities relating to a particular subject (i.e. Surf City)
* Cul-de-sacs with all your friends homepages
* Corporate parks with everybody from a single company in one area
You can help
WebWorld needs more pretty icons to jazz it up. If you come up with
any nice designs that you would like in WebWorld, please send me a
note (ronb@peregrine.com). All icons are 32x32.
Configuration tips
Many web browsers have an option that allows you to see where a link
will take you before you even click on the link. You will want to make
sure that this option is turned on so the link or container is
described whenever the mouse is over it. The description usually
appears at the bottom of your browser.
If your browser supports image caching, make sure this option is
enabled also. Otherwise, when WebWorld is trying to display the cells,
it will take a long time to display each view of the world.
